The caged lion cub was found abandoned in the middle of a field to the north of the city of Utrecht. The jogger, who has not been named, got the shock of his life when he discovered the cat on Sunday.The lion cub, which is thought to be around four months old, has since been taken in to care. It was picked up by officers from Tienhoven – a village located around six miles north of Utrecht.
“I have travelled all over the world to stun animals, even lions and tigers, but I’ve never experienced anything like this,” said Peter Klaver, the vet who examined the lion at the scene. Authorities are now appealing to the general public for any information that might explain how the cub had ended up there. In particular, they want to hear from “anybody who has recently bought a lion.”
“This morning, colleagues received a very peculiar report in Tienhoven,” the department wrote.
