The 900-year-old trinket was unearthed at the site of a Viking farmstead in Iceland’s Thjorsardalur valley. Thor and Odin might be best known for their roles in Marvel’s superhero movie franchise today, but back in the days of the Vikings these deities were taken very seriously indeed.One notable example of their importance to the people of the time – a very rare Viking-era pendant shaped like Thor’s legendary hammer Mjolnir – was recently unearthed at a farmstead in Iceland. Ash and burnt bones, as well as whetstones and soapstone pots, were also found at the site.
The artefacts have since been sent to Reykjavik for further study.
